Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Components
Upgrade components are the parts that make your weapons and armor better. They can be obtained by the destruction of enemies, finding them in spheres of items or buying them from karma dealers. They can also be rescued from equipment that contains them or by using a high-tier salvage kit such as the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components aren't destroyed when you remove them from an item.
The primary function of upgrade components is to allow an item to be upgraded however, they also serve other purposes. They can be stacked in order to increase the level or experience gained by upgrading existing weapons or gear. They can be made for extra bonuses. Sets
